A General Job Interview vs a Tech Interview
Loora is one of the few AI tutors that names job interviews directly, so it is worth being precise about what that covers. A general interview module practises questions such as “Tell me about yourself” and “What are your strengths?” Those matter in tech too, mostly in the first screen.
| Round | What it tests | Can an AI tutor practise it? |
|---|---|---|
| Recruiter screen | Clear intro, motivation, salary talk | Yes, well |
| Behavioural (STAR) | Ownership, conflict, impact with numbers | The language, yes. Whether the story proves the skill, not really |
| Coding | Thinking out loud while solving | No. It cannot see your code or judge your approach |
| System design | Requirements, trade-offs, handling pushback | No. It cannot question a design like an engineer |
| Data / SQL | Explaining queries, pipelines and metrics | Only the vocabulary |
If your interview is mostly a recruiter screen, an app like Loora can take you a long way. If it has technical rounds, you need practice with someone who can judge the technical answer. Our software engineer interview questions in English guide shows what each round sounds like.
A Walkthrough: Practice in Each
With Loora. Andrei, a data analyst, opens the interview module before work. Loora asks him to introduce himself and describe a project. It corrects “I am working here since three years” to “I have been working here for three years” and suggests a smoother way to describe his dashboard work. He repeats the answer until it flows.
With Mockly. Andrei books a session with Tom for a data analyst loop. Tom asks: “Our weekly active users dropped 8% last week. Walk me through how you'd investigate.” Andrei's English is fine, but his answer jumps straight to SQL. Tom stops him in the feedback part: state the definition of the metric first, split by segment, say your hypotheses out loud, then query. Tom gives him the phrases to do that clearly, and a drill list for the week.

Try the Mini AppWhat an AI Tutor Cannot Check for You
- Whether your answer holds up. An interviewer cares whether your design or SQL makes sense, not only whether the words sound right. Mockly's coaches work as data engineers and question an answer the way an interviewer would.
- Whether you sound senior. Saying “I decided” instead of “we tried”, or naming a trade-off before you are asked, changes how an interviewer reads your level.
- Whether your answer has a shape. A behavioural answer needs a situation, your action and a result with a number. An AI tutor can correct a sentence; it does not tell you that the story is missing its result.
- Interview pressure. Talking to a person who interrupts you is different from talking to an app that waits for you.
None of this makes Loora a weak tutor. It is a strong conversation partner; it simply is not an engineer.
Subscription vs Pay-per-Session
How you pay (as of October 2026)
- Loora: free download and trial, then a subscription. US App Store plans from $14.99 a month or $59.99 to $119.99 a year.
- Mockly: a free 30-minute trial with a coach on Google Meet. No card and no subscription.
- Mockly: live 60-minute 1:1 sessions are pay-as-you-go. One session is $50; packs of 5 ($237.50), 10 ($450) or 20 ($850) cost less per session. Credits last 12 months and work with either coach.
- Mockly: Premium is the self-study course at $9.99/month, or $59.99/year, with a 7-day free trial. It does not include a coaching session and you do not need it to book one.
A subscription suits daily practice. Pay-per-session suits the few weeks around an interview loop. Many candidates use one of each.
Loora and Mockly: Pros and Cons
Loora
PROS: realistic spoken conversation any time; job interview and business English modules; feedback on pronunciation, grammar and phrasing; good for advanced learners; strong App Store rating. CONS: no human interviewer; no coding, system design or data rounds; cannot judge technical content; price not on the website.
Mockly
PROS: a human engineer runs real tech interview rounds; feedback on both structure and English; drill list after every session; business English for tech roles too; free 30-minute trial with no card. CONS: booked sessions, not unlimited practice; $50 per hour costs more than an app; two coaches, so fewer slots; needs about B1 English to start.
Verdict
Use Loora for daily conversation and general interview English. Use Mockly when your loop includes technical rounds and you need to know how your answers would score.
